Upper Dolpa Trek is quite stunning hiking area near the Tibetan border of Nepal. The trails lead to the Shey Gompa which is often referred to as the spiritual heart of this region. The entire scenic trekking to these trails covers the typically hidden destinations than the other trekking destinations of Nepal. The place of the mystery naturally rewarded isolated western part of Nepal with the tremendously wonderful landscape, an awe-inspiring serene beauty that resembles roof of the world-Tibet. The visual beauty and the story plot really attracted lots of people towards this place. This trekking route is restricted trekking area that’s why we need special trekking permit for trekking in this route. These trek crosses three relatively highly passes, good paths are followed throughout and there is no trekking on the glacier. This trip also include the Lower Dolpo Trek time of the trekking. The entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989 when the southern part of Dolpa. The trekking trail also passes through the beautiful waterfall and beautiful lakes. This trek takes you on an unforgettable journey in Nepal. Trekking to this route offers you a remarkable and worthwhile experience of the lifetime.

Upper Dolpa trek is the hidden treasure of Nepal which lies in the remote western region of Nepal. This trek starts from Kathmandu after flight towards Jhupal and our trek begins out trek through the remote located admiring the beautiful rain shadow landscape of the Himalayan. It passes through the beautiful valleys, interesting places, local settlements, Hugh Mountains and greenery forest of pine, rhododendron, and oak etc. The region has the vast number of people following the Bon and Buddhists religion more inclined towards Tibetan culture. This trek will remain the most magnificent off the beaten trekking adventure of your life. It is best known for the many isolated high Himalayans valleys of Nepal which is one of the beautiful regions many gigantic mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Kanjiroba among many others. The season between March to May and September to November is the best season for trekking in this region with the Expert Mountain Guide to lead the trip.

Day 11: Acclimatization and rest at Shey Gompa

Day 12: Shey Gompa to Namduna Gaun (4,800m) via Saldang La (5,200m) 6-7 hours

Day 13: Namduna Gaun to Saldang (3,620m) 4-5 hours

Day 14: Saldang to Yangze Gompa (4,960m) 4-5 hours

Day 15: Yangze Gompa to Sibu (4,560m) 6-7 hours

Day 16: Sibu to Jeng-la Phedi (4,900m) 5-6 hours

Day 17: Jeng-la Phedi to Tokyu Gaon (4209m) via Jeng La pass (5,090m) 5-6 hours

Day 18: Tokyu to Dho Tarap(4,040m) 4-5 hours

Day 19: Rest Day at Dho Tarap

Day 20: Dho Tarap to Tarap Khola (3,800m) 6-7 hours

Day 21: Tarap Khola to Khanigaon (3,150m) 4-5 hours

Day 22: Khanigaon to Tarakot (2,537m) 4-5 hours

Day 23: Tarakot to Dunai (2,140m) 5-6 hours

Day 24: Dunai to Jhuphal 2-3 hours

Day 25: Jhuphal to Nepaljung and then Kathmandu by fly

Day 26: Final departure

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

After arriving at the Kathmandu airport and you will meet office manager who comes to pick up you. After you picked from the airport we will move towards our hotels and first we check out and if you come to our country in the morning time we will explore Thamel Bazaar and in the evening time we will have our welcome dinner and if you come in the evening time then we will directly join our welcome dinner.         

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj 1 hr

Early in the morning, we will drive towards the local airport from where we will fly towards Nepalgunj. After one-hour scenic fly from the Kathmandu valley towards Nepalgunj and it is located in western Nepal and near to the Nepal-Indian border. After reach in the Nepalgunj, we will explore all around the Nepalgunj city and spend one night in the beautiful city.

Day 03: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhuphal (Dolpo) and trek to Dunai (2,850m) 2-3 hours

We will be taken to the local airport in the Nepalgunj to fly towards Jhupal after spending the wonderful night in the capital city of Nepal. After 45 minutes flight from the Kathmandu valley, we will reach Nepalgunj and slowly start our trekking towards Dunai. On the way, we will have our lunch then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Dunai and keep walking until we don’t reach our destinations. After reach in Dunai, we will explore all around this beautiful village and spend one night in this village

Day 04: Dunai to Ankhe (2,896m) 5-6 hours

This is the first-day walking trekking in Upper Dolpa. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places, the lush forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak. On the way, we will have our lunch then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Ankhe and keep walking until we don’t reach Ankhe. After reach in Ankhe, we will explore all around this beautiful village and spend one night in this village. 

Day 05: Ankhe to Sulighat 5-6 hours

We will pass through many beautiful places of this route. We will have our Lunch on the way and take some rest and we will continue our trekking towards our destination. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron and Oak forest and we will reach Sulighat and we will spend one night in Sulighat.

Day 06: Sulighat to Phoksundo Lake (3,611m) 4-5 hrs

We will slowly start our trekking towards Phoksunda Lake after having breakfast early in the morning. We will pass through the beautiful waterfall, and keep walking until we don’t reach Phoksunda Lake. The valley is very much popular for bird-watching and we will spend one night in this village.    

Day 07: Rest at Phoksundo Lake

We don’t start our trekking because today day is for rest in Phoksunda Lake. Today whole day we will explore all around this beautiful village from where we can see many wonderful views of Mountain of this region which can be seen from this region and at the evening time we will come back to our hotel and we will spend one night in this beautiful place.

Day 08: Trek to Phoksundo Khola 4-5 hours

We leave Phoksunda Lake for Phoksundo Khola. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Phoksunda Khola and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.       

Day 09: Phoksunds Khola to Phoksundo Bhanjyang 6-7 hours

We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way. We will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Phoksunda Bhanjyang and after reach in Phoksunda Bhanjyang, we will explore all around the Phoksunda Bhanjyang and stay overnight in this beautiful village.  

Day 10: Phoksundo Bhanjyang to Shey Gompa (4,500m) via Kang-La passes (5,360m) 5-6 hours

At the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places of this region. We will have our lunch on the way then after taking some rest and continue our trekking towards the Shey Gompa village and we will spend one night in this beautiful village.    

Day 11: Acclimatization and rest at Shey Gompa

We don’t start our trekking because today day is for rest in Shey Gompa. Today whole day we will explore all around this beautiful village from where we can see many wonderful views of Mountain of this region which can be seen from this region and at the evening time we will come back to our hotel and we will spend one night in this beautiful place.

Day 12: Shey Gompa to Namduna Gaun (4,800m) via Saldang La (5,200m) 6-7 hours

In this trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places of this region and we will have our lunch on the way then after taking some rest and continue our trekking towards the Namduna village and we will spend one night in this beautiful village.    

Day 13: Namduna Gaun to Saldang (3,620m) 4-5 hours

From Namduna Gaun, we will move towards Saldang. We will have our lunch on the way then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Saldang after reach in this beautiful village we rest for some time then explore the surrounding area and we will spend overnight in this village.   

Day 14: Saldang to Yangze Gompa (4,960m) 4-5 hours

During the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places, the lush forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak. On the way, we will have our lunch then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Yangze Gompa and keep walking until we don’t reach Yangze Gompa. After reach in Yangze Gompa, we will explore all around this beautiful village and spend one night in this village.   

Day 15: Yangze Gompa to Sibu (4,560m) 6-7 hours

There are two trails that connect to Sibu from Yangze Gompa. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Sibu and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.       

Day 16: Sibu to Jeng-la Phedi (4,900m) 5-6 hours

Our camp will be set up in the beautiful meadow. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Jeng-la Phedi and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.       

Day 17: Jeng-la Phedi to Tokyu Gaon (4209m) via Jeng La pass (5,090m) 5-6 hours

We get up early in the morning start our trekking towards Tokyu Gaon. At the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places of this region and we will have our lunch on the way then after taking some rest and continue our trekking towards the Tokyu Gaon and we will spend one night in this beautiful village.    

Day 18: Tokyu to Dho Tarap (4,040m) 4-5 hours

We trek downhill on a plain valley. We will have our lunch on the way then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Do Tarap after reach in this beautiful village we rest for some time then explore the surrounding area and we will spend overnight in this village.   

Day 19: Rest Day at Dho Tarap

We don’t start our trekking because today day is for rest in Do Tarap village. Today whole day we will explore all around this beautiful village from where we can see many wonderful views of Mountain of this region which can be seen from this region and at the evening time we will come back to our hotel and we will spend one night in this beautiful place.

Day 20: Dho Tarap to Tarap Khola (3,800m) 6-7 hours

In the morning time, we will slowly start our trekking towards Tarap Khola after spending overnight in Do Tarap. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful places, the lush forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak. On the way, we will have our lunch then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Tarap Khola and keep walking until we don’t reach Tarap Khola. After reach in Tarap Khola, we will explore all around this beautiful village and spend one night in this village.   

Day 21: Tarap Khola to Khanigaon (3,150m) 4-5 hours

We will slowly start our trekking towards Khanigaon. During the time of trekking, we will many beautiful places, villages, and the Lush forest of Rhododendron. We will have our lunch on the way after lunch we will keep walking until we don’t reach in Khanigaon with the awesome views of the Mountain and after reach in Khanigaon, we will spend one night in this village.    

Day 22: Khanigaon to Tarakot (2,537m) 4-5 hours

After breakfast, we will slowly start our trekking towards Tarakot. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Tarakot and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.     

Day 23: Tarakot to Dunai (2,140m) 5-6 hours

Today we will pass through the many barren landscapes of this area resemble Tibet. We will have our lunch on the way after lunch we will take some rest and start our trekking. We will walk until we don’t reach in Dunai and we will spend one-night ion this beautiful village.  

Day 25: Dunai to Jhuphal 2-3 hours

Leaving Dunai for Jhuphal. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Jhupal and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.     

Day 26: Jhuphal to Nepaljung and then Kathmandu by fly

Spending the wonderful moment in Jhuphal we will move towards Nepaljung. After reach in Nepalgunj, we will have our lunch and slowly drive towards the local airport of Nepalgunj to fly towards the Kathmandu valley. After reach in the Kathmandu valley, we will explore around the Thamel Bazaar and we will spend one night in the Kathmandu valley.     

Day 27: Final departure      

After having breakfast early in the morning your trekking guide comes to your hotel to take you in the airport. We will drop you at the international airport and see you off.
