Makalu Base Camp Trek is surrounded by a unique combination of unparalleled beauty, biological diversity and cultural heritage is the Makalu trekking region. This trek takes you to the world’s 5th highest mountains and deep into the northeastern Himalaya. Trekking in this wilderness around it is just waiting to be explored by the intrepid trekker prepared to forgo the comforts of teahouse treks. This region is blessed with incredible scenic nature, much diversity of Makalu due to lying in the remote area as well as isolation. The trek is a physically challenging trek requiring trekkers to be fit and face the challenges of climbing hills, crossing river and appreciating the beauty of one of the remotest corner of the Himalayas. The main inhabitants of this region are mostly Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Brahmin. This trip also include the Kanchanjanga Base Camp Trekking. The region falls under the protections of Makalu Barun National Park and conservation project.

Makalu Base Camp Trek takes you on an adventurous journey into the heart of Mt Makalu. We will make a wilderness voyage to explore the forest, wildlife, the cultural and geographical landscape of the Makalu region. These trekking trails will leads up to the North of the Arun river valley along the several villages such as Sedua and Num from where viewing spectacular scenery of peaks. There are 16 mountains situated on this trekking route. This route is home to 3000 species of flowering plants, 440 species of birds and 75 species of Mammals. It is an ideals trek for those with the time and desire to experience impressing natural beauty, the lifestyle of different ethnic groups, cultural diversity of peoples, magnificent Himalayan ranges and rich variety of flora and fauna. The season between April to May and September to November is the best season for trekking in this route. Leading by Experience Mountain Guide.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

After arriving at the Kathmandu airport and you will meet office manager who comes to pick up you. After you picked from the airport we will move towards our hotels and first we check out and if you come to our country in the morning time we will explore Thamel Bazaar and in the evening time we will have our welcome dinner and if you come in the evening time then we will directly join our welcome dinner.      

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar & drive to Chichira (1,980m) 9/10 hours

Early in the morning, we will be taken to the local airport in the Kathmandu valley to fly towards Tumlingtar after spending the wonderful night in the capital city of Nepal. After 35 minutes flight from the Kathmandu valley, we will slowly start our trekking towards Chichira. On the way, we will have our lunch then after we will slowly start our trekking towards Chichira and keep walking until we don’t reach our destinations. After reach in Chichira, we will explore all around this beautiful village and spend one night in this village. 

Day 03: Chichira to Num (1,560m) 6/7 hours

We start our trek towards Num. During the time of trekking, we walk through the picturesque village and Lush Mountain forests take us to Num. At the time of trekking we will pass through the beautiful places, lush forest of Rhododendron, Pine and Oak forest and have lunch on the way after lunch we will keep walking until we don’t reach our destination and we will spend one night in this village.     

Day 04: Num to Seduwa (1,500m) 6/7 hours

A steep through forest and terraced farms take us to Barun river. We will pass through many beautiful places of this route and we will have our Lunch in the route. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron and Oak forest and we will reach Seduwa and we will spend one night in Seduwa.  

Day 05: Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100m) 4/5 hours

A very hard of the trek as the trail goes up real steep. During the time of trekking, we will cross the hillside through quiet villages and be passing by small paddy fields, and then after we will reach Tashigaon where we will spend one night. 

Day 06: Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,500m) 6/7 hours

In the morning time, we will slowly start our trekking towards Khongma Danda after spending the wonderful night in Tashigaon. During the time of trekking, we will many beautiful places, villages, and the Lush forest of Rhododendron. We will have our lunch on the way after lunch we will keep walking until we don’t reach in Khongma Danda with the awesome views of the Mountain and after reach in Khongma Danda, we will spend one night in this village.  

Day 07: Rest Day in Khongma Danda

We don’t start our trekking because today day is for rest in Khongma Danda. Today whole day we will explore all around this beautiful village from where we can see many wonderful views of Mountain of this region which can be seen from this region and at the evening time we will come back to our hotel and we will spend one night in this beautiful place.  

Day 08: Khongma Danda to Dobate 6/7 hours 

At the time of trekking, we can see the marvelous view of Chamlang, peak 6, peak 7 and then after we will cross Keke La Pass. We will have our lunch in Keke la pass then after we descend through the beautiful valley to Dobate and spend one night.  

Day 09: Dobate to Yangri Kharka (3,557m) 6/7 hours

We will pass through the many barren landscapes of this area resemble Tibet and we will have our lunch on the way after lunch we will take some rest and start our trekking. We will walk until we don’t reach in Yangri Kharka and we will spend one-night ion this beautiful village.  

Day 10: Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka (4410m) 5/6 hours

We should be very careful during the first two hours of the trek as the trail is steep and arduous. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Langmale Kharka and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.  

Day 11: Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp (4870m) 6/7 hours

We leave Langmale Kharka for Makalu Base Camp after having breakfast in the hotel. At the time of trekking, we get an opportunity to see the wonderful views of Mount Makalu and we get to soak in the majestic Himalayan Panorama surrounding us and we will spend one night in Makalu Base Camp. 

Day 12: Explore Makalu Base Camp

We don’t start our trekking because today day is for rest in Makalu Base Camp. Today whole day we will explore all around this beautiful village from where we can see many wonderful views of Mountain of this region which can be seen from this region and at the evening time we will come back to our hotel and we will spend one night in this beautiful place.  

Day 13: Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka 6/7 hours

Spending the wonderful moment in Makalu Base Camp we will slowly move towards Yangri Kharka. We will pass through the small villages and a few temples on the way and we will have our lunch on the way and keep walking until we don’t reach in Yangri Kharka and we will spend one night in these beautiful villages.  

Day 14: Yangri Kharka to Dobate 6/7 hours

We follow the river bank of Barun as we down the trail. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the rock falls, green forests and valley, and make our way towards Dobate. At the time of trekking, we will follow the river banks of Burun as we descend down the trails and spend one night in Dobate. 

Day 15: Dobate to Khongma Danda 5/6 hours

During the time of trekking, we will many beautiful places, villages, and the Lush forest of Rhododendron. We will have our lunch on the way after lunch we will keep walking until we don’t reach in Khongma Danda with the awesome views of the Mountain and after reach in Khongma Danda, we will spend one night in this village.  

Day 16: Khongma Danda to Tashigaon 4/5 hours

The trek continues with frequent long and steep descent cutting through the hillside. At the time of trekking, the trail takes you through the thick forests and finally making it to the indigenous Sherpa village of Tashigaon and we will spend one night in the beautiful village.   

Day 17: Tashigaon to Seduwa 4/5 hours

From Tashigaon, we will move towards Seduwa. In this day trekking, we will pass through the Makalu National park, cross the hillsides, descend down to the Barun River and settlements as we move further down finally stopping at Seduwa again and spend overnight in this beautiful village.   

Day 18: Seduwa to Num 5/6 hours

Leaving Seduwa for Num after having breakfast in the hotel. We will pass through many beautiful places of this route and we will have our Lunch in the route. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron and Oak forest and we will reach Seduwa and we will spend one night in Seduwa.    

Day 19: Num to Tumlingtar 6/7 hours

After having breakfast early in the morning we will slowly start our trekking back towards Tumlingtar after spending the wonderful night in Num village. We will pass through many beautiful places of this route and we will have our Lunch in the route. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron and Oak forest and we will reach Num and we will spend one night in Num.    

Day 20: Tumlingtar to Kathmandu 50 minute flight

We will catch the local flight to fly towards Kathmandu valley which takes almost 50 minutes to reach Kathmandu valley from Lukla. After reach in the Kathmandu valley, we will explore around the Thamel Bazaar and we will spend one night in the Kathmandu valley. 

Day 21: Final departure

After having breakfast early in the morning your trekking guide comes to your hotel to take you in the airport. We will drop you at the international airport and see you off.
